Clap! Clap! David Latreille for putting a twist, flavor and excitement in a video that encompasses the remarkable music by Asten Harris yes A.K.A Apex Martin of Kayne West fame. Undoubtedly the song is killer but the rapid photos of actress Emilie Dumas should be displayed for patrons entering a nightclub anywhere. The thing of it is, this 2014 genuine piece of digital storytelling, which was submitted to WJ via The Cacique Film Awards , is listed as a music short film. Its the work of a genius!
“A two-minute short film about a young woman experiencing music through a psychotic phase.”
What Mr. Latreille did in 2014 was redefined style in a music video. Were the standards set by the brilliant producer/director followed since its original release? If we are honest with one another the answer is; no!
This a perfect example of why MTVintroduced music videos that were created decades ago. Is it a song that should be on full blast driving in a quiet neighborhood? No.. Its too special.. This two minutes and eleven seconds tune could be put on while working out in the gym, dressing up to impress a his or hers date or going through that psycho phase that we all endure.
In closing this gem was created ahead of our time.
Robyn Whitmore of Sierra Lane Productionshas attempted to bring issues in a Louisiana community that was once considered taboo yet remains in certain societies today. Independent films are normally funny, creative and sometimes thought provocative while being created on a low budget. Ms. Whitmore seems to have covered the norm while extending boundaries of various subject matters.
The result or transparent review of the noted project is: “Sometimes the results doesn’t resembles the efforts”. Its safe to say that Ms. Whitmore has more in-store in the now “DIY” realm of film-making. The limitations and/or congenial cooperation between the cast members of this indie film doesn’t seem to have been an handicap. However the scattered concept of the film does leave one to ponder- “What is the statement or concept behind the stories? There seems to be more than one”
“A blended family has to face some harsh realities about their father and siblings while preparing for an annual ball.”– Robyn Whitmore
A loyal lover of film will see the subliminal talent of Ms. Whitmore. It is recommendation that, you the reader, not only watch the film in its entirety but also follow the future projects of Sierra Lane Productions. The best is yet to come.

For those of you that are aware of the rich traditions that comes with Skopje, Macedonia, then you should be informed of the amazing band,Eye Cue. During the bands seven year history they have performed to over a half a million people as a main-stage act. The most notable of those festivals being the massive “Taksirat”.
The bands notoriety due to heavy rotation onMTV (Adria) has resulted in awards such as “Song Of The Year 2012” to “Band of the Year 2015” within theBalkan region.
The rock/pop/fusion/trance band that consist of Bojan Trajkovski and Marija Ivanovska are schedule to release their much anticipated European release “We Are Having Fun” on February 14th, 2018 via Crownn Records/Pivatell Distribution. To promote the release of the record the band will be undertaking a lengthy European tour throughout the month of February and March. The album and tour will be highlighted by the hit single“Million Times”.
Surprisingly the band has more catalog of music, videosand live shows than the average, wannabe western society, bands out there but has never crossed the border with their shows. The latter isn’t an excuse because of the lack of opportunity or interest but rather a choice based on the mastermind Bojan idea of the right time.
“The thing of it is, we noticed all of the bands in America and on the continent of Europe were rushing to release their music online. We didn’t believe in that. That isn’t to take away from some of the new main stream bands, but we wanted to corner our market first. Besides putting anything online is easy. I also studied the market and just concentrated on the sound that was in our hearts and when the right opportunity came along we took it. We are excited to finally tour outside of the Balkan region while promoting our music.”- Bojan
Its seems as though the real bands that have a live unit to perform their songs are out there. The likes, the followers and self propelled tags that so many are begging to have via the social media platforms to capture art these days are exposing themselves. Getting in the van or bus to play a show in any language and/or from any region can arguably be what music is about.
EyeCue are a band that has not used the excuse of being from a region that is seldom overlooked for talent. The end result is the talent within EyeCue that the public has enjoyed during the 300 plus shows thus far. Keep your eye out for this band.
It is extremely hard to find a band that isn’t apart of the new mainstream era that is road sturdy with a welcoming sound and lyrics that all genres can relate to. Does that sound dangerous or is it just what you have been looking for?
The rivetingsound thatJointPop, a Trinidad /Tobago band, has is completed by a live show that the new era musicians and gig goers alike yarn for. The band consist of lead singer Gary Hector with Damon Homer on the second guitar, Jerome Girdharrie on bass, Phil Hill -keyboard/synthesizer is completed by soothing yet complimenting drummer Dion Camacho.
The band formed in 1996 and has released an astonishing 7 full length albums over its 21 year history. Due to extensive touring, the bands loyal following that was ignited from the West Indies has stretched to the heart of Europe. In 2011, the band broke the Atlantic barriers with a selection of live dates to compliment the fist full of back catalog with an extensive tour of Europe.
The culmination of Gary’s vocals and lyrics with a mixture of a reggae/pop/rock is evident in the bands selection of notable singles:
After a much needed break from the grinding road over the last two years, the band is gearing up for yet another European jaunt in early 2018 which is to be preceded by a festival circuit tour.
Finally! A band that has created their own sound by taking their time to master their craft while developing a remarkable stage presence that has seen a revolving door within their image. This is “The Stranges”, a 4 piece Rock band from Bogota, Colombialed by Sascha on vocals, Jhonathan on guitar, Hell on bass and drummer Jose. The band are preparing to release their debut Album “Madhouse” on June 25th, 2018 are currently planning to spread their madness for a promotional onslaught on European soil summer 2018.
“Our music is melodies complimenting rock music that the audience can sing along to!”-Sascha
That statement is verified by the magical elements that makes up the band debut album “Madhouse” which is led by the single “Madness”. After listening to “Madhouse” in its entirety, one has to wonder if its strange in 2018 that a group of artist that has obviously honed in on their craft can exemplify the joy playing music while being creative. The answer without question is; “Yes, the album is a gem and their live show is a must see!”
Without attempting to be unique in their appearance to garner more likes or followers on the now mandatory social media platforms, the band have left it up to the music industry world to catch up to them. Their beauty, class and prolific sound has complimented the well received and award winning Madhouse album.
The new single,“Lost In The Kingdom”by Leeds, England bandKoyo, has certainly redefined the digital rewind button on any media player. You will find yourself listening to the track more than once. The song has the strength of discovering a third eye as one may make up their own video beginning with the opening lines of “Lost in the Kingdom of hopes and dreams’.. This song can suit a road trip, a workout or a painter putting layers on a tapestry to reasonings behind making up to a love one. It is an inspiring track that fills the void in an industry that has run out of creative ideas while toying with their instruments. These guys have honed in on their craft and their journey has only begun.
The track which is slated for a release date on June 9th, is the perfect example of modern day flawless productions that is suitable for all genres of conventional radio. I would be surprised if the track isn’t a rotational hit on both sides of the ocean.
“The strong interest in the band that has been garned recently from LA LA land, is validated by the captivation after listening to the first five seconds of the track.”
Lost In The Kingdom is a eternal gesture and gift from Koyo to music listeners that may become a virus to those who have given up on new music as of 2017.
In a world where we try to predict the next best thing or copy the remaining sounds of the strings that were left behind from those that created it, there are somethings or songs that remains original. You just have to look for it and we found it in Tasmania, Australia in The Silverbeets.
For starters in 2017, unfortunately we (the indie music community) have screwed it up with overly saturated athems that makes very little sense within the indie musical circuit. We can all agree that at the top of the music chain, which used to be considered the cream of the crop, there are more bird droppings than organic melodies. The search for bands that are genuine can be found in remote places or as one would think; the bottom of the world. In this months music review, there is a certain Indie Pop band that can be found near the bottom of the earth that someday will rise to the cream of the top. – The Silverbeets.
The band, which is essentially the master mind of Farnz Cordeaux, was created in 2010 in Tasmania, Australia. Their current debut E.P. “The Purple Stems” which initially generated a positive knee jerk reaction from their online music community has also garnered a list of enquirers and a respectable number of online engagements based on the unique writing style of their lyrics. Farnz seems to have made an effort to remind us where the melodic machine of music comes from.
Farnz Corbeaux, explained it best;
“The song, Does Not Equal Ten, is a song about love going wrong. It’s those relationships that you find yourself in that aren’t healthy but there’s something about the relationship that you can’t break, or you do but you go back. Perhaps it’s great sex, maybe it’s money, maybe it’s cos of beauty or power or whatever, but whatever it is everyone else can see that therelationship isn’t right except the two people in it. Eventually you figure it out and split for good but until that point it can be painful for everyone. The chorus, well there’s this thing about being the perfect 10 right? So if we look at it that way, everything that these people do in this relationship is to try and make the relationship equal a perfect 10 but it never works and just never adds up, hence 2 + 6 + 4 Does not equal 10″
Music has forever been written in the form of stories since the beginning of time. It is refreshing to know that there are bands that are still writing about their experiences or journey through life. These days it is common to sample and cover songs that has being quoted “writing from the heart” that someone else has written. It happens and no one can be blamed for covering a song that may or may not signify where they are in life or expressing what a particular song may mean to them. The difference is finding the gem from those classics which may be the reason why those artist picked up their instruments in the first place. The latter used to be known as inspirational classics.
The Silverbeets have managed to culminate lyrics and their experiences through their songs with bare facts. The talented musicians that make up the body of work in the sound can be heard as the production of the tunes should set a standard that is desperately needed in the new age indie music community.
It is true the internet has made the world turn faster while becoming closer. There is also the element of attitude to speed up the process of compliments and recognition in the world of holding a mic and singing a song then putting it online and claiming to be in a band. For the most part, its a rather disgusting situation as the let downs after listening to the streaming of those songs meets disappointments just as a doughnuts with no sugar. Then there are exceptions and in this case its The Twin Cams.
In the spring of 2017, The ‘Cams seems to have recognized the advantages and disadvantages of being from a rural part of the world while utilizing the instant distribution systems and platforms of delivering music. Confidence is a word that has yet to be overly saturated on the favorable instant gratication platforms in which these pair support however they are filled with confidence.
“We don’t write a song or record a song to appeal to any target audience, we write and record because it happens. It’s not as easy as breathing, we’re good enough at this to be able to do it in our sleep, songwriting is difficult, but when an idea comes along it can become a catalyst really and some magic just happens.”-Tim Ratiganstated.
The first question any true music listener would ask is; “Really, is that so?” Before leading into a list of questions to challenge the duo, I let Mr. Rattigan rant. My thoughts were he had better say something different or at the very least live up to their own hype because that rope in which himself and Matt has placed around their neck, will most likely get a new nickname.
Tim concluded; “The internet has changed things so much now that we don’t feel that being in any particular location is better than another as far as success is concerned – while some locations offer more gig opportunities than others, the difference between such locations is very small compared to the volume that can be targeted via the internet when it comes to gathering fans – we would even go as far as saying that for any band who is yet to be discovered, it is very possible that an audience will take to them if they happen to see them by chance while on a night out. However the truth of it is if you are half decent, most intoxiated individuals will enjoy what they hear – But how many of them will remember you the morning after? – Some will, but the majority will carry on with their lives because you have served the purpose of entertaining them for 45 minutes or so.”
“Online fans are different – they are more likely to follow you because they like you.”
It is a fact that some levels of confidence comes from being located in a remote part of the world that on any given night there is an amazing musician that will subsequently out do each other in what is called a“session”. Then again, what if you transcend both and the follow the rules of song writing, which is laying down tracks that are in your heart.
Judging by the opening tunes on their debut“The Same Four Walls”six track E.P., the band seem to be aware of what is out there in the big world of kitchen bands, but they have purposedly stayed true to their roots.
We all assume that when we leave this remarkable planet we are going to heaven but until that day comes we all find our peace in things that are apart of our journey. As music lovers we sometimes find our “Taste Of Heaven” within our favorite songs. Kevin Gullickson, of Radio Drive, found that taste of heaven when he laid eyes on the love of his life years ago and eventually put the words and melodies in the bands single “A Taste Of Heaven” . From the opening chords of the song one would have to be frozen on the other side of the moon to not feel the passion behind his joy. The song displays a culmination of the bands early influences (most notably U2) as well as fill the void of where some of those bands may have left off.
The single which was originally released in 2014, was produced by reknown producer Chris Garcia (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Celion Dion), will be re-released via resurging original indie label Crownn Records/Crownn Sounds on July 4th, 2017.
Just like most worthy things that exist in this world, its amazing how we sometimes forget that good music takes time. The re-release of “A Taste Of Heaven” could also mean that time caught up with Kevin. The song was after all about the love of his life and he has been a taken man for sometime which could only mean that the previous release in 2014 was really a taste of heaven from a well perserved bottle of music wine.
“We knew Kevin and crew had released the record a few years ago but for whatever reason the promotion behind the record wasn’t complete. Amazingly enough, there is still alot of life in the single based on the world-wide support and reception the song keeps garnering. We are lucky to be apart of Kevin’s progress in this now fickle industry and estatic to be apart of the radio friendly single.”- James Lane-Crownn Sounds- 2017
To support Mr. Lanes statement, the single is backed by melodies that suits all genres and it wouldn’t be a major surprise if there are territorial DJ’s that are remixing the song to suit their perspective live venues. The single as sweet as it sounds, may be considered a subliminal attack on todays selfie singer/songwriters who should get a thumb out and concentrate on melodies first prior to proclaiming to write a song.
The timeless lyrics within the single; “Hair of brown and eyes of blue, the first time I laid eyes on you, it was a taste of heaven”, may read as a corny verse, but it clearly certifies Kevins as a brand ambassador for quality love songs.
The bold time and reputation management investment between both parties (Crownn and Radio Drive), to re-release a single in 2017 shows the confidence that both parties have in good music that still sells. A Taste Of Heaven will be available on all formats (CD and Vinyl) as of July 4th, 2017. Radio Drive are expected to promote the single by a lengthy tour of Europe starting in September 2017.
