The roadtrip music lovers lyrics “I hope you can hear me, I am here if you need me” will stick out. After reviewing the starlets who happens be on the active Soundhub Label, (WJ) , just as yourselves will be eagerly awaiting for more. If anyone of you can remember a song that you don’t want to end, then this is it. The single which will inevitably be considered a film score anthem consistently delivers a tone that is never ending.
Remember the days when you were a passenger of a vehicle and you heard a song that you couldn’t get out of your head? Even better, have you ever sat at a bus terminal or have been eagerly awaiting for something in a customer service lounge then an amazing song came on and you asked; “Who was that and what is the name of that song?”
These days we all ask ourselves where in the world could we find a song that we can remember the chorous to that doesn’t have the words“nigger grab your dick or momma and poppa grab your balls etc” complimented with a dry loop in it. The most embarrassing part is, more so than not those songs are always in autotune disguising horrible lyrics and vocals. Sad but true in 2017, its gotten to that level of music based on the lack of creativity. Instant gratification at its finest! Is it safe to say we need a cure?
The song title itself may shock middle America but once you listen to the track or dare to read the lyrics the explanation is quite clear. In a world where everyone wants to be offended to be awarded a selfie trophy of likes and shares, this young man have mastered his craft with generic riffs, a gutair solo and lyrics to remind us that there are original artist out there.
The Devil Is Innocent track, will make you question the now popular lets be whores and updated slave tracks that are dominating our radio frequencies. Does this make the devil innocent when we have allowed music to be accepted if you can protray yourself as a whore or pimp in the name of your family.
Judge for yourself. Responses are welcome so go on and contact the man himself downunder..
Here we are some two years later after the “Who Do Think They Are?” post and it seems that although the reaction was positive and there has been over 97K followers that read the article, the truth is, the submissions from DIY artist to the public and within the music industry has gotten worse.
Sure there are the renditions of tapes, CD’s and Vinyl along with the current trend of streaming that keeps the music industry machine going and this is great. However, the approach and the delivery of quality music is still lost in the mix bowl of talent or should we say self entitled talent.
We can blame the discovery of taking pictures in mirrors (selfies) as a perfect example of people who are looking at themselves in mirrors based on what their own delusions are. The facts are the same within the current state of music delivery and some of these artist are delusional. There are some amazing music out there and good music still sells while a great song will live forever. The 7.5 billion census question is:
“Where is it?”
These days you can’t create a social media page or troll your own social media site, most notably Twitter or Facebook, without those selfie musicians demanding you to check out their music or video. But one has to wonder or ask several questions and among those important questions its always: “Whats next? Or even better “Why?” At some point most of the new age artist or selfie artist are demanding you check out their material as if its going to bring them fame. In this day and age where our beloved YouTube has replaced television or music video channels, anyone can buy impressions or views for the videos they upload. If there are a million and one likes or views are we suppose to follow a trend based on the number of views or does this mean that because there are a certain number of views then its quality or like-able material.
First and foremost, if its already out there then someone will “check it out” even if its yourself. Yes that is right, you can pay someone to “get likes” after posting some of the music then celebrate as if you are a star. Imagine someone desperate enough to pay for likes or followers that leave no comments or invite you to play live in their city. Maybe there should be an additional option for the public to choose from based on the statistics that are also displayed such as geographical and demographic analytical views. Then again this would shatter the glass mirror so maybe its better to leave it smoking to fulfill those delusions. Need we say more?
According to Webster Dictionary: The definition of desperate is: (of a person) having a great need or desire for something. In reference to this piece its about demanding likes or followers. Hilarious or not it is without question a cruel reality.
Remember the days when we would sing in the mirror and pose as if you were Paul Stanley from KISS or Madonna then tell your friends or family to come and see. Well its the same isn’t it? In modern times the translation of “check this out” would mean “hey look at me, I think I am sexy or I can sing so follow me!” Funny right. Has anyone wrote an honest and constructive comment on those posts? Was your comment deleted and your profile blocked only for the submitter of the post to destroy you in a response without you being in a position to defend your initial comment. The results is smoking mirrors or selfie music that makes up the body of smoking mirrors. It makes you wonder what independent music is these days if that is the case. One can also wonder why these artist are not asking the public what they think and accepting the response. It seems this would be the logical way of not only building a brand through genuine followers but its also a way to expand their sound. Are these artist are afraid to find out the truth? Is this a new genre being created within this selfish industry? Here we go: Cowards of Selfie Music.
Where did being creative and different go to?
Over the years there has been some exceptions to the growing trend in remarkable artist such as Lindsey Stirling, but we all have to agree that her formula, style and quality of material is above the norm. The result has seen the Los Angeles starlet sell out theaters and arenas around the world yet you wouldn’t find her playing live at an in-house popular music awards. Maybe the judges or panel of such awards are mechanical or machines as they are year after year selecting the same shite music such as Drake, Rihanna and some other copycat self proclaimed pimp or whore. The moral police of music have unfortunately succumbed to supporting the new genre of clown music. Charlie Chaplin and crew have to be in heaven going f**ks sake!
Here we go, the definition of courage in the Webster Dictionary is: Strength in the face of pain or grief. Bravery
In this case its about the artist pouring their heart and soul into their sound by mastering their craft to express themselves. The courageous part of it is, they are leaving it up to the recipient (listener) to chose for themselves.
Does it work? Sure these artist are putting their dreams into motion without feeling the public owes them something. They promote themselves just as much as the professionals does but the successful ones never go rogue. They sweat and win together and those standards are based on a delegated process within each sector of working behind the music. The formula is quite simple, everyone is on the same page. There is music out there that genuine labels and distributors believe in such as Proper Music Distribution that works with large and small booking agencies. The thing of it is that those reputable entities working relationship is based on the belief in the same artist genuine promotion.
For those that are reading this lengthy piece, try it out. When it comes to approaching PR companies, due your due diligence and ask what is the finish line. Have the courage to look past the name dropping some may use to secure your check but look deep into their strategy in regards to your music.
The positive side to hiring professionals, if you take yourself serious enough, you can learn from their mistakes as well as get better along the way.
For the artist that are reading this and will continue to partake in the DIY system, take a deep breath and don’t add to much water into the instant gratification process of your music. You will receive exactly what you put into your music and if you don’t require professionals to handle your music then the reality is you don’t need the public. So.. What is your objective? – Selfie Music. Have fun in your bedroom or kitchen performing to the smoking mirrors.
In closing, good food is like good music, we just eat it and it becomes our favorite food and its what you prefer. When the package or label of the food or music is presented right it looks and smells good and more than likely it will taste good. But if the package and label of the food or music looks cheap and smell like shite, then it probably is!
The video of the week comes from Rodos Film Festival Selected – “BLIND” from Berlin, Germany based band Letter From Eden. It should be noted that this post is not only about the award winning video but also a recommendation to follow an amazing band. The song Blind displays a band that seems to continue to work on their craft while maintaining originality in a music world that seems to rely on systems as oppose to actually playing their instruments– *****5 STARS Highly recommended!!
The company which was founded by Alexander Lony and Yann Grouhel in 2013 are also responsible for a number of short films and music videos.
The company have also gone on record stating: “ When the band invited us to their rehearsal room to hear some of the new songs (which of course all are great!), we immediately decided to shoot their music video.
In late June 2014 someone told me that music shake the chemicals in our body and stimulates our soul. I couldn’t believe after nearly 17 years of Crownn Records, I was acknowledging the truth.
So what’s the problem with the horible music that is being released today?
“Who do they think they are? “- with the (JustAdd Water/Do It Yourself) systems of delivery. Does the world owe you something because you can upload to Itunes? Does that make the music better? Where is the efforts of PR, artist/band infrastructure, and quality of sound.
In this instant gratification world of ours, why is it that everything is put into categories or a genre? In closing out the year of 2014, we have rock, hip-hop, dance and traditional. Then there is horrific rock, hip-hop and quadrible copied dance, trap, EDM and no such thing as new traditional music.
The majority of those songs are done DIY style and released within the same two months of recording with zero structure or quality assured plans. The nontrust factor of a loyal team goes within the DIY. Who in the world world consider recording a song in one month and releasing it the next month? ahhh… PR? Process of delivery?
Its a dead give away that those artists music will be a Halloween costume if a single, album or video is being considered “dropped on such and such date” or released before there is a structured 4 month planner. Can we all repeat the words “brand building”?
Here is a bigger joke, those artist or bands then go online when they are DIY posting on the social media platforms and announce a live date and expect people to come. That insulting process, to the public and real industry likes, includes begging others for more shows in bars, clubs or other non MRPS (Mechanical Royalty Protection Society) venues. Then expect people to show up based on bathroom selfies and Android PR.
Hold your stomach because the hook and sinker is; they wont play live unless there is a gurantee financially from a venue, eventhough there is a DIY structure. As well as noone knowing who they are or have heard their music. Hilarious right? Well they call themselves artist. Didnt artist take the risk of capturing an audience then stick their hands out for money based on a great series of songs? Hmm.. and now??“Who do they think they are?”
Then again its DIY and self entitlement and a free world that is surrounded by satellites to make releasing a song accessible for everyone. What would happen if we took a worldwide vote on uploading horrible music a crime?
With the exception of the bands from Ireland and the UK, everyone else is copying the American sound. For the love of God, what is that?“WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?”
The DIY, of the music business is more contagious than Ebola, except everyone is into it and spreading the horrible disease. Sure its a different world and the combination of creating and delivering good music is different, but there is nothing like the conventional method of creating a good sound, having the balls to play it live without “handout” excuses and seeing what happens. Those days when people saluted courage over stature seems like the smallest white golf ball on the moon. (You simply cant find it).
I remember in 2004, when Crownn signed it’s first major distribution deal and how excited we were. We were putting out tapes, vinlys and cd’s. For some reason we kept hearing in Berlin “Yeah but, the digital age is going to eat you up!”.
My first thought was why? It’s just another form of communication, so why not embrace it? I mean we still had to put out good music and support our bands playing live, which meant radio plugging, PR, poster campaigns and a well defined guerilla marketing plan. Above all good music still sells know matter what format its delivered in. To me it should be easier to excercise the aforementioned than before.
“Master your craft first!”
Was 2004, the last year of a good song? No offense to Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, without whom there wouldnt be any music worth listening to. Ok, Ok that was unfair, there are tons of great bands and music out there. However, the ratio of 3 to 1 in 2004 compared to the 100,000 to 1 in 2014 doesnt consistently shake the chemicals in us anymore.
Lets be honest here, a band competition would be the most boring event on the planet now. Anyone disagree? Why do we listen to music from 15 to 45 years ago to shake the chemicals in our bodies? Get it now?
Who does the “New Power Generation/DIY” music shakers think they are? Why listen to so called older music and never follow the blue print of how to get their music out there?
Its ironic that the term Master Your Craft can be considered an insult? For those who are offended then perhaps they are guilty.
Here is a possible solution from a nobody (me) who has been in the music industy would like to suggest;
Try having a 45 minute listening session starting with The Wildhearts single “Its Only Love” (3 minutes), then take 45 seconds of the chorus of the T.I./ Justin Timberlake song “Dead and Gone”.
Take a sip of water and put on “Estranged” by Guns and Roses (only for 3 minutes), and cut that with “You Drop The Bomb On Me” by the Gap Band. It may be wise to have a seat now.
While sitting down to catch your breath or relax from the chemicals in your body from exploding, put on Elton John “Good Bye Yellow Brick Road”, then play any song by Public Enemy! ** It should be noted that Chuck D and company were decades ahead of themselves.
Just when you think it cant get any better put on the single “Sing” by Travis. Then repeat the process again.
What do you think? Did you notice the difference in the creativity, diversity and the artist(s) “Mastering Their Craft?”
My point being is, all of those artist are from different backgrounds, cultures and influences yet the chemicals in our body stimulates our soul with their craft that was mastered. We know who they are!
For the life of my imaginary gold fish, I cant understand why the DIY (artist, entertainers, uncredible agents and managers) cant supply one sales statement or tour talk settlement excel or a PR receipt. The aforementioned at the very least is the proof of efforts and sometimes the efforts doesnt represent the results although it does show they have attempted to try.
Without these simple components and NOT mastering their craft—
“Who Do They Think They Are?”
It would be amazing to hear what Prince , who is still with us, think of todays current music process. I can only imagine what the Father of Rock and Roll “Johnnie Johnson” is thinking from above.
“We know who they are!”
In closing “Who do they think they are” to copy all of the remarkable chemical shakers from the past then mix, remix their music only to not follow the rules. Where is the honor amongst the theives? X-Factor, has to be the biggest contributor to those tears in heaven.. Sorry Mr. Cowell but you invented a new weapon to destroy us all. I am sure the same guy who invented the gun meant well, but look at how that device is being used in 2014.
