A worthy reading to enlighten us on what triggers our reactions or reflexes, which are “synapses” through our neurons: the neurotransmitters and neuromodulators.

Otto Loewi, who earned a Nobel Prize based on his findings, concluded that nerves send messages by releasing chemicals (BibliU, n.d.-b). My interest grew in the subject based on the tenacity of Loewi and his findings that led him to the monumental prize (The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1936, n.d.)

My selection of a neurotransmitter is amino acids used containing glutamate for torn muscles recovery from exercise.

An article published in Amino Acid Guides states Glutamic acid is a non-essential amino acid that can be converted to glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain and spinal cord (Glutamic Acid | Glutamate – Glu – Structure, Properties, Function, Benefits, 2023)

The intriguing aspect for me was the proven statement published in our required reading; Glutamate acts even in the plant kingdom, transmitting messages to help the plant react to a damaged part (Toyota et al., 2018). I related to the organic neurotransmitter based on my advocacy for natural recovery that maintains the health aspect of torn muscles from exercising.

It brings to question those who are naturally built health-wise and maintain a natural healthy diet that contains amino acids as opposed to those who purchase over-the-counter amino acids for rapid growth. Why purchase a pill for the stimulation of recovery when we can all grow a plant and eat it for the same result?

What I mean is- how does the public know what is synthetic nutritional stimulates that contain unhealthy metals that make people act irrationally, in comparison to those who know what they are eating to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

The reaction of synapses is : “what we eat and our behavioural patterns depend on what we consume in our body to function. And when the system breaks down we break down.”
